Une enquête américaine sur la sexualité des prêtres vient d’être publiée aux USA sous le titre Beyond ‘Bad Apples’, Au-delà des pommes pourries. Il s’agit d’un rapport publié par les chercheurs d’une université jésuite et basé sur des entretiens avec quelque 300 prêtres, religieux et laïcs : projetant d’examiner les "pourquoi" et les "comment" qui permettent aux abus sexuels perpétrés par le clergé de perdurer dans l’Église catholique, il met en lumière le manque d’aptitude et l’incompétence des prêtres sur "les questions de sexe, de genre et de pouvoir, les trois volets de l’approche".

Le Monde des 3-4 janvier 2021 a consacré une enquête bien documentée à la situation des prêtres mariés ou en couple. On y donne la parole à Jean-Louis Schlegel, sociologue des religions : « L’ordre de grandeur qui revient souvent, c’est un prêtre sur trois, voire deux prêtres sur trois, qui aurait une relation physique ou amoureuse avec une femme ou un homme. Two questions are taken up in this article – What is the solution to the ministerial crisis in the Roman Catholic Church and are formerly active priests ‘Ex priests’ or ‘Priests forever’? A challenge is posed to the authorities in the institutional church. They must stop clinging to ancient traditions and myths which are time and culturally bound – this is demonstrated both in the case of marriage and ministries. What is lacking in he latter case is the community aspect. Rather, reflecting on a more organic and developmental model of creation, they must ordain the leaders in the communities to preside at our Eucharistic celebrations and thus grant us the space to become what we will become.
